One Last Time by Ariana Grande
‘One Last Time’ is the fifth single promoting Ariana Grande’s second studio album, ‘My Everything’, released in 2014, after ‘Love Me Harder’.
The pop ballad with electro influence was subject to multiple duets, featuring the French singer Kendji Girac and the Italian singer Fedez, as Ariana Grande attempts to enter the European musical market.
‘One Last Time’ debuts with the image of a television program, presenting the news: the imminent crash of a comet, susceptible to affect life itself on Earth. Terrified people witness on the sky parts of the comet, burning and threatening the existence of mankind. In front of the disaster, Ariana Grande leaves the car, although his boyfriend recommends her to remain in a safe place.
The closer she gets to the comet’s place of crashing, the brighter Ariana Grande’s clothes become, showing through neon lights the way that his partner has to follow.
‘One Last Time’ is based on realistic details, analyzing the fear and hope felt by people in front of a potential apocalypse. While everybody seems to panic, trying to save their own lives, Ariana Grande is determined to get closer to the comet, in order to better understand the effects of the event.
She is unstoppable, not even policemen or firemen can make her understand the gravity of the situation, as she manages to advance to her target. In her path, the artist meets a frightened family that she helps to save themselves, as well as a strange man coordinating computers, trying to stop her reach the roof of a building. Ariana Grande’s partner hits him, following her to the roof, where the recording stops, as they embrace and kiss for the last time, since the comet finally reached the Earth’s surface.
‘One Last Time’ is written by David Guetta, Carl Falk, Savan Kotecha, Rami Yacoub and Giorgio Tuinfort, previously collaborating with Ariana Grande in the case of successful ‘Problem’ or ‘Bang Bang’ featuring Jessie J and Nicki Minaj. Carl Falk, Rami Yacoub, Savan Kotecha and Giorgio Tuinfort contributed to the production of the song, as well as Ilya, mastering songs for Ellie Goulding, Jennifer Lopez or Fifth Harmony.
‘One Last Time’ was released in February 2015, followed by a suggestive video.
‘One Last Time’ is shot from an amateur perspective, debuting in the couple’s car, following Ariana’s attempt to discover more details about the event and ending with the couple s kiss, before the comet’s crash. The video was released in February 2015, featuring Matt Bennett, Ariana Grande’s partner from the sitcom ‘Victorious’, being directed by Max Landis, appreciated for short films and ‘Chronicle’ (2012).
