Shower by Becky G
The Latino teenager revelation Becky G is determined to confirm her musical potential, after the success of “Play It Again” released in 2013. “Shower” is a common summer video for a teenager artist, focusing on having fun and highlighting her beauty, but Becky G’s smooth voice, able to easily combine pop and rap rhythms, distinguishes it among similar creations.
“Shower” starts with Becky G, lying in her bed, thinking of how to dress and make up for the party. Her long golden jewels are a mark of hip hop style, one of the musical styles that she embraced. Similarly to any teenager of her age, her room is crowded with makeup items and clothes thrown at random. She calls her friends, using a pink smartphone and the party starts to take shape. Friends prepare themselves, dressing the fanciest outfits they have and even pets are embellished, with large sunglasses.
The party created by Becky G is an animated one, everybody seems to have fun in their own ways: some dance, while others swim. Somebody brings a birthday cake, that Becky G amusingly extinguishes with a water hose used in the garden.
The party is extended to the night fall, when the celebrated one invites everybody dance with small fireworks, to light the joy they feel.
“Shower” was released in April 2014, being written by Becky G, Henry Walter, Planet VI and Lukasz Gottwald. In addition, Cirkut and Dr. Luke produced it, delivering a catchy summer song based on pop with hip hop influences. “Shower” will be included on the upcoming album of the young artist, which is expected to be released this year.
The video promoting “Shower” was released on 29 June 2014, featuring the cameo appearance of T. Mills in the end of it, as the boyfriend Becky G has been waiting to join the party. “Shower” was directed by Tim Nackashi, mostly known for his short documentaries such as “Inner Beauty” or “Sold in America”.
In the case of this video, Tim Nackashi preserved the traditional line of videos displaying teenagers such as their desire to party and display spectacular outfits, but he also included some visual effects mostly seen in documentaries and movies. For example, the water surface becomes a mirror itself, when Becky G admits she is singing in the mirror, she can effectively see her own reflection into a double surface of the pool.
