Mean To Me by Brett Eldredge
Country ballads, similarly to rock ballads, have a particular charm combining deep voices with smooth tones. ‘Mean To Me’ is a suggestive example, revealing to Brett Eldredge’s fans a new face of the artist.
According to the tone of the song, its video is filmed in sepia, focusing on Brett Eldredge’s preparation to meet his partner. As any other man, he wants to look perfect for a special dinner: he takes a shower, he shaves and he dresses an elegant suit. The scenario of the video is simple, since the director focuses on the feelings and gestures associated with the awaited meeting of his partner. While defining his outfit, Brett Eldredge sings about his love, impatiently waiting for the moment when he would arrive to the place of their meeting.
The metropolis seems to be an empty universe on the window of his car, animated by a distant fireworks show. Once they are together, fireworks appear once again, accompanied by a decorative fire on the terrace of the restaurant, as a symbol of their love.
Placed in a luxurious hotel of New York, the video also includes scenes of a lonely car ride towards the restaurant where he is supposed to meet his partner. The restaurant itself is also a glamorous one, with a large terrace, facilitating a romantic sightseeing of fireworks on New York’s sky.
‘Mean To Me’ is the fourth single promoting Brett Eldredge’s debut album ‘Bring You Back’, a country ballad released in July 2014. The song was written by the artist, including Scooter Carusoe’s contribution, creating for Lady Antebellum (‘Own The Night’), David Nail (‘The Sound Of A Million Dreams’) or Gary Allan (‘Get Off On The Pain’). The ballad ‘Mean To Me’ highlights a new perspective of the country artist, drawing the attention of country fans in 2013 with the dynamic ‘Beat Of The Music’. Produced by the Grammy-awarded Luke Laird, also mastering songs for Tim McGraw, Ne-Yo or John Legend, ‘Mean To Me’ distinguishes through a smooth romantic line, highlighted by Brett Eldredge’s mature vocals.
The video of ‘Mean To Me’ was released in September 2014, designed by Shane Drake, including scenes shot in New York. The American director is a recurrent collaborator of country artists including Tim McGraw (‘Southern Girl ‘), Danielle Bradbery (‘The Heart Of Dixie’) or Brantley Gilbert (‘One Hell Of An Amen’). Shane Drake previously created in 2014 for Brett Eldredge ‘Beat Of The Music’.
