I Wanna Go by Britney Spears
The video for I Wanna Go by Britney Spears was made to accompany the singer’s successful top 10 single. The song was taken from her 2011 album Femme Fatale, although the song itself was recorded in 2009. It is known for its distinct whistling sound in the background, and its lyrics are about losing control and releasing inhibitions. The music video for I Wanna Go by Britney Spears was directed in Los Angeles by Chris Marrs Piliero. Piliero was inspired by the careless, almost reckless vibe of the song, and wanted to make a video that reflected that. Actor Guillermo Diaz starred in the video, as did Spears and several dozen extras. The video makes references to several other works, including Die Hard 2, Half Baked, Terminator 2, Spears’ film Crossroads, and Michael Jackson’s video for Thriller. It also references things in Spears’ life, like her membership in The New Mickey Mouse Club and her confrontations with paparazzi.
The video for I Wanna Go by Britney Spears begins with Spears at a press conference. Reporters hound her with ridiculous questions, and she becomes angry. After cursing them out, which is censored with bleeps, she leaves the conference. Spears meets and interacts with some fans, and then flashes several people. Seeing this, a policeman frisks her, and he touches her a bit more than is necessary. Spears is then shown with the policeman’s handcuffs, and he is shown redressing.
The video continues with Spears walking down the street when she spots a paparazzi. Angered once again, she smashes his camera; however, more paparazzi surround her, flashing pictures as quickly as possible. Spears escapes by climbing on top of the taxi, and she continues to attack the unwanted photographers. However, they suddenly reanimate, shown with red eyes and wires, and it becomes clear that they are robots. Then a car pulls up to Spears’ rescue, and the driver, Guillermo Diaz, tells her to get inside. She does so, and they drive away.
Spears is then shown dancing in the passenger seat of the car, dressed in a bikini. Guillermo’s character drives and then strangely pours a carton of milk over himself. Spears notices that his chest is sparking, and she pulls open his shirt. Guillermo turns out to be a robot as well. Before it is shown what happens, the press conference is shown again, and it seems that Spears daydreamed the entire thing. Suddenly, though, Guillermo appears again, leading Spears away. As the last notes of the song play, he turns, revealing his red eyes again. The video for I Wanna Go by Britney Spears is funny and irreverent, and indicates Spears not taking herself too seriously.
