Treasure by Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars, whose real name is Peter Hernandez, is a singer, songwriter, and record producer has made a name for himself in the last few years. Mars got his start in the music industry because of his collaboration with other artists.
Over the years, Mars has written songs and added his vocals for such artists as Snoop Dog, Bad Meets Evil, Flo Rida, and Ke$ha. On the other hand, Bruno Mars has also received his own acclaim and stardom with such hit singles as “Locked Out of Heaven,” “When I Was Your Man,” “Grenade,” and “The Lazy Song.” Mars has been won several awards including Grammys as well selling over 8 million albums worldwide.
The song “Treasure” comes from Bruno Mars’ second album entitled Unorthodox Jukebox which came out in 2012. The song is the third single from that album and it was released in June 2013 from Atlantic Records. “Treasure” was written by Mars, Ari Levine, Philip Lawrence, and Phredley Brown. The music video for the song was directed by Mars and Cameron Duddy, who has also directed music videos for such artists as AWOLNATION and Matthew Koma. Boulevard Industries was the production company for the music video, and it was shot in Las Vegas in May of 2013. Besides Mars, the video also features model Taja Riley. The video gives off the vibe of an old live TV performance from the 1970s or 80s.
The music video for “Treasure” starts out showing an old disco ball hanging from a dance floor. The camera pans down as Bruno Mars and his band begin the song with dance moves reminiscent of the Jackson 5. Mars and his backup band/dancers are dressed in maroon suits, animal print shirts, and plenty of bling.
The music video also harkens back to old TV performances with its plethora of bright lights, choreographed dance moves, and even a keyboard guitar. Halfway through, the video transitions into showing the band and Riley with all kinds of different effects around them like blurs and space backgrounds. At one point, Riley is superimposed over a bright light in the middle of outer space. The music video ends with Mars and his band once again on the stage dancing to the beat.
The song “Treasure” is all about how wonderful the singer’s girl is. The singer is reminding her how special she is even if she “don’t know it.” He tells her that she is “wonderful,” “flawless,” his “golden star,” his “treasure.” More than that, the singer delights in the fact that she is his. During the verses, the singer mentions that he notices she is “looking so blue” and walking around like she wants to be someone else. However, the singer keeps reminding her that she is everything he could ever want and will “treasure” her if she allows him to.
