Calvin Harris, whose real name is Adam Wiles, is a DJ from Scotland who has become famous for his own electronic music and remixing singles from other popular artists. Harris is especially well-known for his work on Rihanna’s hit song, “We Found Love.”
So far in his career, Harris has released three studio albums, a remix album, and three extended plays. Some of his hit songs include “Flashback,” “Ready for the Weekend,” “I’m Not Alone,” “The Girls,” and “Acceptable in the 80s.” Moreover, Harris is also a singer, songwriter, and record producer for artists like Example, Cheryl Cole, and Kylie Minogue.
The song “I Need Your Love” comes from Harris’s third album entitled 18 Months. The song was released as a single in April of 2013 from Columbia Records in conjunction with Deconstruction and Fly Eye Records. British singer Ellie Goulding adds her vocals for the song, and “I Need Your Love” is also a bonus track on Goulding’s album Halcyon. The song was written by Harris and Goulding. The music video for the song was also released in April of 2013. The video is directed by AG Rojas and produced by Geoff McLean. The production company for the video was Caviar. The video stars both Harris and Goulding.
The music video for “I Need Your Love” starts out showing Goulding in a bed with white sheets as she begins to sing. Harris pops into the scene and is affectionate with Goulding before the camera shifts suddenly to show Goulding and Harris outside. Harris and Goulding are seen being playful and affectionate outside surrounded by palm trees, driving down the road with the top of the car down, on the beach, walking down the street, and stopping at a tattoo parlor.
At one point, another guy takes the camera and films himself skateboarding, playing pool, and riding a motorcycle. Still another guy gets the camera and films from a helicopter and then from a jet ski. The video ends with a group of girls filming in a club in which Harris is the DJ and dancing with Goulding. The whole video gives the impression that everyone in the video is filming themselves with the camera and it has an amateur-like quality.
The song “I Need Your Love” features haunting vocals from Goulding and catchy beats and synthesizer loops from Harris. The song speaks of feeling good and right when with the person you love and needing them. The other person makes everything right and the singer comes alive and “feels so high” when her love is around. The song also speaks about feeling lost and helpless when the two are apart. The verses talk about feeling alienated from the other person and the singer begs for them to “hold me in your arms again.” The chorus repeats the lines of “I need your love/I need your time/when everything’s wrong you make it right.”
