Two Black Cadillacs by Carrie Underwood
Carrie Underwood’s “Two black Cadillacs” will forever go down memory lane as one of America’s country music most thrilling productions of all time. The song comes off Carrie’s Blown Away album, which is her fourth studio album so far. Written by Josh Kear, Hillary Lindsey and Underwood herself, the story line behind the song plus the video used for the song proves that Underwood has a lot more to offer as far as narratives are concerned. The single was released on 26th November, 2012. It was produced by Mark Bright and directed by the one and only, P. R. Brown.
The video contains a lot of aspects that make it quite fascinating. For one, the shooting is rather superb! From the graveyard setting to the dark alley setting; the directing and production is top notch. The video tends to concentrate on even the most minor of aspects as required by the song. The black veil worn by the two female characters in the song, Underwood’s glamorous manicure, the Cadillac sign on both Cadillac used; these are just some of the few small details that make the video highly captivating. On the other hand, the story line is well laid out for the viewers to enjoy themselves.
The video basically shows the story of two female characters, one the wife while the other is the mistress. Though the video does not really show it happening, the lyrics suggest that the two met each other via phone as the wife called back to one of the numbers on the husband’s phone. Apparently, the mistress had no idea that the guy was married. On finding it out, the two characters gang up and plan to kill the man in pursuit of revenge. The video then takes us to a dark alley where the mistress tricks the guy in showing up after which a car chases the man down the lane. The video reaches its peak when the two female characters meet at the man’s funeral, where they both arrive in “two black Cadillacs”, never to meet ever again.
The story used in the song is quite good and captivating. On the other hand, Carrie has blended what many might refer to as a thematic elements with modern pop culture to come up with a very unique piece. The video and lyrics is proof why Carrie Underwood is at the top of her game!
