Homegrown Honey by Darius Rucker
‘Homegrown Honey’ is a dynamic country song released by Darius Rucker, following his first single released in 2014, ‘Miss You’. The song is based on an optimistic line, telling the story of a beautiful woman is the artist’s community, worthy all the money he could gain. The video designed for ‘Homegrown Honey’ is also a tribute to Darius Rucker’s fans, supporting his concerts.
The first scenes of ‘Homegrown Honey’ show a flirtatious woman entering a bar, asking for a cocktail and smiling to all men admiring her. While she is leaving the bar, confident in her sex appeal, the focus of the video is changed towards Darius Rucker and his band’s rehearsal for a concert. The two plans are separated through different visual background: the scenes representing the ‘Homegrown Honey’ are displayed in sepia, able to highlight her beauty, while the scenes associated with Darius Rucker and his band preserve natural light.
Besides the theme of attraction as suggested by the appearance of the beautiful woman, ‘Homegrown Honey’ is in fact a video dedicated to Darius Rucker’s fans. He is displayed writing songs, rehearsing with his band and taking selfies with his fans in a hall leading to the stage. Being on stage, the artist is willing to create a memorable show for his fans, he gets closer to the audience in order to touch their hands and invites the ‘Homegrown Honey’ to join him on stage. The video ends with the beautiful woman, smiling amused, while the concert is feverishly applauded by fans.
