“Hold On, We’re Going Home” is Drake’s first official single from his Nothing Was the Same album that was released September 24th, 2013. Most people will conclude that this is the Aubrey Drake Graham that they like! The Drake that makes music with an old school vibe and yet, with a new school feel at the same time. “Hold On, We’re Going Home” is one hot ballad by Canadian rapper Drake and fellow Canadian crooner Majid Jordan.
The collaborative effort brings fans yet another Drake-esque production as he bridges new material with the pop culture of the past.
Drake seems to have poured a lot of love into this song. Although Drake always seems to be rapping about love and relationships, this song is different. “Hold On, We’re Going Home” appears to be telling the girl that he is singing about, that she is the one for him and he wants her to remain by his side. This is a more interesting evolution to his previous songs, and the new artistic techniques have pulled off another great achievement within his music portfolio. There is no limitation to how great this video was received by fans, particularly in his native home Canada where the single was flowing off the charts.
The song starts off with smooth 80 pop sound vocals, as Majid Jordan seems to be trying to romance you right off your feet and Drake drops his tenacious lyrics. The video for “Hold On, We’re Going Home” feels like A-Team meets The Equalizer meets An Eye for an Eye mini movie, and features a variety of recording artists and various actors such as Majid Jordan, A$AP Rocky, Johnny Simmons who plays the traitor, fellow recording artist and Fredo Santana as the kidnapper, to name a few.
The star cast performed well, creating a nice infusion of music and storytelling, woven into Drake’s smooth flowing lyrics. The video is comprised of a duo introducing Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman, providing a nice vocal background that greatly enhanced the track and was the backbone to its muse.
The video for “Hold On, We’re Going Home” was entertaining. An explosive kingpin type, action filled shoots ’em up mini drama set in 1985 Miami. With Drake and his crew having dinner, enjoying drinks, and celebrating in a restaurant. Cut scene to Drake’s love seated at the vanity in her underwear, men break in and she finds herself being kidnapped. What ensues next turns into a wild ride as Drake and his crew goes to save the girl meanwhile the entire time “Hold On, We’re Going Home” plays in the background, and you hear Drake’s lyrics as he tries to tempt the girl into his waiting arms in the song. Whilst the music video was dramatic though, I really liked the lyrics for “ Hold On, We’re Going Home”, it has a real down to earth feel, a true relaxing vibe. This song is on repeat!
