I Got U by Duke Dumont ft. Jax Jones
“I Got U” is a love song, featuring an attractive electropop style, to brighten your day. There are fragments of the song similar to Whitney Houston’s “My Love is Your Love”, Duke Dumont being essentially influenced by it, transforming the song into a challenging experiment. “I Got U” can be considered an imaginary journey around the world, where everybody can afford everything, mostly to love.
A young man is impatiently drinking his coffee, waiting for the courier. The package he receives is suggestively named “Better Than Life”, being a futuristic helmet that once is used, is able to teleport the man into a glamorous life. There is no more a reliable border between reality and dream, since both tend to melt into a personal universal. His entire life is changed: the modest home he used to live is replaced by a luxurious villa. The young man enjoys his time on the pool, next to a beautiful woman. Once he jumps into the water, he is effectively teleported into the ocean.
Tropical forests, sunny islands, beach parties and sports, boat rides, bonfires, never ending night parties in metropolis or canoe are only few of the incredible experiences generated by the magical helmet recreating the reality. Through that gadget, the man can obtain everything he could dream, although it might be just an illusion: a personal yacht, a ride on the back of an elephant, the presence of beautiful women near to him or booking an intimate room in a luxurious hotel.
Once every experience he wished is over, the man kisses the helmet, as a form of thanking for the results offered. The video ends with a subtitle question, indirectly understood by the context of his experience: would he use the helmet once again?
“I Got U” is the second single promoting the debut album of Duke Dumont released in March 2014. Written by Wyclef Jean, Adam Dyment, Jerry Duplessis and Timucin Aluo, the song was mastered by Duke Dumont and Jax Jones.
The video accompanying “I Got U” was released in February 2014, being directed by Remy Cayuela, mostly known for his short films and the commercials recently created. Remy Cayuela created “Feel Of Love” (Tensnake), “Afterglow” (Wilkinson) and “Kill Kill” (Wat featuring C.S. Rucker). In the case of “I Got U” he proposed an exotic background, the video including locations of Bangkok, as well as the participation of Rique, one of the most appreciated young actors in 2014.
