L.A.LOVE (la la) ft. YG by Fergie
“L.A. LOVE (la la)” is Fergie’s comeback after a year of absence in music industry, “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)” released in 2013 being the last song promoted by the artist. Launched on 29 September 2014, “L.A. LOVE (la la)” featuring the young rapper YG promotes Fergie’s upcoming studio album.
Dressed in a colorful dress with silver studs suggesting the word “La”, Fergie opens the video of her new song. Initially placed in a night club, where everybody around her have fun, in the next scene Fergie displays her body into a baby blue swimsuit on a desert island. The video continues with a series of complementary images: Hollywood, a bus with a skull pattern or a street break dance, to suggest the good time Fergie experiences along with her friends.
Similarly to Katy Perry’s “This Is What We Do”, the video is enhanced with funny animations representing robots or donuts. Those amusing moments are completed by Fergie wearing a long blond wig, potentially mocking the wave of new artists drawing attention through appearance, not precisely through musical performance.
Her party bus is open to anybody, as consequence geishas, mothers dancing with their babies on the shoulder, alien-masked dancers or old men, such as the one kissing her photo in the end of the video, are all welcome.
“L.A. LOVE (la la)” becomes the universal language connecting the members of the party bus. “La” can be the abbreviation for love and tolerance, as music unites persons with different backgrounds. The end of the video directs the attention of viewers to one of the initial scenes, representing Fergie on the beach. Once the old man lost her picture, being drifted by wind, that picture is animating, Fergie singing once again in the same summer décor.
“L.A. LOVE (la la)” was written by Fergie, Theron Thomas, Shomari Wilson, Dijon McFarlane (Dj Mustard) and Royce Thomas, appreciated for their contribution to hip hop and rappers, including Iggy Azalea or Will.i.am. The song was produced by Dj Mustard, transforming Fergie’s voice previously associated with pop and R&B into a reliable rapping revelation. Dj Mustard also collaborated with Tyga, 2 Chainz or Jeremih.
The video of “L.A. LOVE (la la)” was launched on 10 November 2014, being directed by Rich Lee, who previously designed for Fergie “Clumsy”, as well as “Rap God” (Eminem) or “Don’t Wanna Go Home” (Jason Derulo). “L.A. LOVE (la la)” also benefits of the presence of Kelly Osborne, Chelsea Handler, Taylor Momesen or Koda Kumi, close friends of the artist. The versatile director focused on Fergie’s sex appeal, as noticed in the sensual outfits displayed by the artist, as well as the unconventional idea of a party bus travelling on Los Angeles streets.
