Want To Want Me by Jason Derulo
‘Want To Want Me’ marks Jason Derulo’s comeback with a new studio album, after the successful ‘Talk Dirty’ in 2014.
The musical style of the American singer has slightly turned into pop influence, preserving the traditional R&B and hip-hop base, as in ‘Wiggle’, the latest single, featuring Snoop Dogg.
‘Want To Want Me’, as it name indicates, is Jason Derulo’s attempt to determine his partner to love him. The video debuts with the image of an old television loss of signal, a small ventilator cooling the atmosphere, while rain drops are captured in a bottle. As the universe seems to collapse, Jason Derulo lies in his red bed, minimally clothed. On the other side, his partner displays the same attitude in her bedroom, suggesting that she waits for his arrival.
Being separated from her is an agony that Jason Derulo decides to end, taking the first taxi. His destination is divided between arriving to her apartment and arriving to his concert, where he performs for her. The director simultaneously presents scenes associated with these possibilities, as Jason Derulo is interested to express his love through both situations. While singing for her on an old stage, the artist shows dancing steps that remind of Usher’s style.
The end of the video is based on a flashback, the director returns to the initial scenes suggesting the separation of the two lovers, although they were together as presented in the concert and the bedroom of Jason Derulo’s partner. He is once again alone in his bedroom, cooled by the small ventilator.
‘Want To Want Me’ is included on the recent studio album of Jason Derulo, entitled ‘Everything Is 4’, being the first single promoting it. ‘Want To Want Me’ was released in March 2015, written by Jason Derulo and Mitch Allan, Sam Martin and Lindy Robbins, previously creating songs for David Guetta, Demi Lovato, Kelly Ckarkson or Selena Gomez. Ian Kirkpatrick, a current collaborator of Hillary Duff and Neon Trees, mastered the song.
The video of ‘Want To Want Me’ was launched in March 2015, Colin Tilley directing it, similarly to previous songs promoted by Jason Derulo as ‘Talk Dirty’ or ‘The Other Side’. ‘Want To Want Me’ includes the presence of model Tianna Gregory, as the artist’s partner.
The American director chose to design a contrasting video for ‘Want To Want Me’, based on dual scenes, as Jason Derulo and his partner separating into two bedrooms or the artist’s hanging on the ceiling, while Tianna Gregory takes a bath.
