Wiggle by Jason Derulo feat. Snoop Dogg
‘Wiggle’ is a contagious song for this summer, promising to make everybody dance. It starts like a whisper, followed by hip hop and pop rhythm, animating the party during a hot day at the pool. ‘Wiggle’ is also a funny parody of similar videos, but a refined one, typical to Snoop Dogg’s style. There is no coincidence that he keeps monitoring the party through his binoculars, in fact he is searching for fresh ideas to mock.
Naturally, every video dedicated to summer fun includes beautiful ladies dancing, pink balloons at the pool and other colorful accessories or ladies covering the bed of the superstar exhausted after a wild night, but what if an old woman comes out of those sheets? Obviously, a big surprise and quite unexpected, being exactly what Jason Derulo and Snoop Dogg want to suggest.
You don’t have to follow the trend to become visible, you can do it being simply mocking everything and everyone, luckily for Jason Derulo and Snoop Dogg, there are some many ideas that they can imply for the update of the video. The images of the old lady or the dance of a fat undressed man are completed by another ironic image, when Jason Derulo drinks water from a melting sculpture, reminding of a woman body, suggesting that everything comes to an end, even beauty.
As consequence, instead of worrying for everything, you can simply ‘wiggle’ and enjoy the moment.
The contagious movement transferred from one character to the others, such in the case of the first policeman, making his partner behave similarly can be a parody to DJ Snake & Lil Jon ‘Turn Down for What’, where all characters would feverishly dance, being constantly infected with the mood, transferred from one character to the other.
‘Wiggle’ is included on Jason Derulo’s fourth album ‘Talk Dirty’, featuring Snoop Dogg, reaching in terms of popularity ‘Stupid Love’. In the video, R&B singer Ne-Yo appears, but he doesn’t perform any vocal part.
The video, launched on May 2014, was directed by Colin Tilley, who has created videos for Enrique Iglesias, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake or 50 Cent. The Californian director is quite familiar with the hip hop world, he perfectly understood the intention of the two artists concerning the video.
