Since Nicki Minaj created a vogue through “Anaconda”, more singers started to have courage in singing about different parts of their bodies. One example is “Booty”, the creation of Jennifer Lopez, performing extremely sensual scenes, along with Iggy Azalea, proud of that part of her body made her famous during the last decade.
Originally named “Big Booty”, featuring Pitbull’s performance, Jennifer Lopez wasn’t convinced about its potential, until her children received it positively. In order to avoid any pejorative comments, the artist chose to name its sensual song simply “Booty”, inviting all women to the dance floor, to have a good time on dance and oriental rhythm.
The video starts with a familiar scene from SF films, including a countdown and a space explosion, as a mark of the revolution that viewers would experience. The two artists are dressed in antagonistic suits: Jennifer Lopez in black, while Iggy Azalea preferred the white tone. High heels and sensual moves are recurrent, Iggy Azalea even touching her friend’s booty for fun. At the end of the video, Jennifer Lopez in a yellow glittering outfit seems to be a goddess, feverishly dancing to perform a releasing ritual, while the last scenes show Jennifer Lopez completely dressed in black, nonchalantly smoking, while pressing one leg on the wall. It’s a sensual imagine, suggesting that women can have a good time anytime, without being accompanied by any man.
“Booty” is included on the Latino diva’s eight studio album released in 2014, “A.K.A”, being released in September 2014, as a vocal collaboration with Pitbull. The famous rapper also helped Jennifer Lopez to create the song, being one of songwriters, along with Diplo, Cory Rooney, Benny Medina, Asia Bryant, Lewis Gittus, Tedra Renee Wilson, Danny Omerhodic and Chris Brown.
“Booty” was produced by the artist herself, Cory Rooney and Benny Medina, previously mastering songs of Jennifer Lopez, as well collaborating with Marc Anthony or Mariah Carey. “Booty” featuring Iggy Azalea was released on August 2014, following their collaboration of “Acting Like That”, also included on “A.K.A”.
Hype Williams directed the inciting video of “Booty”, released on 18 September 2014. The American director has constantly collaborated with female artists such as Christina Aguilera (“Not Myself Tonight”), Nicki Minaj (“Massive Attack”) or Beyoncé (“Drunk In Love”), as consequence he is familiar with the deepest thoughts of a woman’s spirit. In the case of Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea, he chose simple backgrounds, such as an empty room or a dance in the rain, focusing on the sensuality of both artists dressed in swimming costumes.
