Who would have imagined Pitbull rapping on Latin rhythm? Much more, what about Pitbull singing in Spanish? That’s something worthy, besides J Lo’s return to tongue language, as consequence ‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’, one of the songs promoting 2014 FIFA World Cup won’t disappoint you. Once you will listen it, it’s likely to whisper the chorus all day long, since living football magic brings us together, as the title suggests.
Trying a new music style wasn’t enough for Pitbull, he wanted ‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’ to be completely different from what he used to release. Taking in account the passionate dance of Brazilian protagonists, his colorful outfits and the smooth voices of the two Latin stars invited, ‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’ was a challenge for the American rapper and a serious candidate for the official song of the competition.
As any other video dedicated to FIFA World Cup, ‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’ includes scenes dedicated to the famous competition. Ronaldo or Messi are one of the few footballers displayed, since the focus of the video is set on the joy felt by the audience. As consequence, children playing football on a beach, people on the street dancing, supporters waving their flags on the arena are the most implied visual metaphors. In the end, it’s not about winning the glorious cup of gold, it’s the pride and joy felt by children, future champions, raising into the air a cheap version of the cup, as the director shows in the end of the video.
‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’ is based on the vocal performance of Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte, one of the popular Brazilian singers. The dynamic song was written by the three stars, helped by famous producers such as Thomas Troelsen or Nadir Khayat. Initially created as a solo version of Pitbull performance, the rapper decided that his voice will be completed by a feminine touch, which turned to be double: Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte invited to sing along.
The video for ‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’ was shot during February 2014 in sunny Florida, providing a similar background to the legendary Brazilian beaches. Released on May 16, ‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’ will officially open the FIFA World Cup ceremony on June 12, in São Paulo. Pitbull asked Ben Mor to direct the video, since the young director is recognized for his unconventional vision as seen in ‘Part of Me’ (Katy Perry), ‘I Gotta Feeling’ (Black Eyed Peas) or ‘Work Bitch’ (Britney Spears).
