Will.i.am, whose real name is William Adams, is a singer, songwriter, record producer, DJ, and actor. Will.i.am is most popular for being one of the members of the Black Eyed Peas, a hip hop group who has won several awards, including Grammys, and has had many top songs.
However, will.i.am has also had a successful solo career. He has released four solo albums so far in his career and has been a producer for other artists such as Nicki Minaj, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, and Justin Bieber. Will.i.am has also been seen both on television and on the movie screen including his role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Will.i.am’s song #thatPower comes from his fourth album #willpower which was released in April of 2013. The song #thatPower was released as the fourth single from that album in March 2013 from Interscope Records. The song also features vocals from superstar Justin Bieber. It was written by will.i.am, Bieber, and Damien Leroy.
The music video for the song was directed by Ben Mor. Black Dog Films was the production company. The video was shot in Japan and released in April of 2013. A special version of the music video was shot especially for the 2013 NBA Playoffs and featured such players as LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Dwight Howard.
The official music video for #thatPower starts off with will.i.am getting out of a futuristic-looking blue car. Other black cars pull up and his backup dancers get out. The will.i.am in the blue car sets down a special box that glows and up pops Justin Bieber, although he looks like a spirit being. Bieber adds his vocals and continues to dance as this spirit being as will.i.am and his backup dancers get moving to the song.
They are seen dancing in the street in front of temples and in markets. Bieber also adds his vocals from advertisement screens. Will.i.am and the others dance in front of a screen with dazzling visual effects. The group is seen moving through the city with a distinct walk carrying the briefcase with the special box. At one point, the group meets another group of dancers dressed in white vests. The video ends with will.i.am holding the special box and its energy shoots up into the sky.
The song #thatPower is an anthem to going higher and higher and becoming stronger and stronger. It talks about how every minute and hour we are getting stronger and more powerful. Bieber sings about how “I’m alive, I’m alive, I’m alive” and “I can fly, I can fly, I can fly.” In between his vocals, will.i.am raps about not caring “what the haters think” because he is going “higher and high and high and higher.” Will.i.am has “that power” and is going to keep striving to be “number 1” He is going to keep getting stronger and reminds us that “whatever doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger.”
