Mirrors by Justin Timberlake
Over the years, Justin Timberlake has proven that he is more than just the former leader of a 90’s boy band. The actor, singer, and record producer first become known as a member of the group ‘N Sync but has gone on to enjoy his own successful solo career. He has had several hit singles and record-selling albums and is known around the world.
Timberlake has also come into his own by the means of his acting career. He has starred in such films as The Social Network, Friends with Benefits, and Bad Teacher. His third studio album, entitled The 20/20 Experience, was released in March of 2013.
One of the singles from that album is called “Mirrors.” The song was written by Justin Timberlake along with Timothy Mosley, Jerome Harmon, and James Fauntleroy. The music video of the song was directed by Floria Sigismond and produced by Dawn Rose. It was released by RCA Records and made by Black Bog Films.
The original song is over eight minutes long and the music video only features Justin Timberlake for about the last two minutes or so. Justin Timberlake also dedicated the music video to his grandparents, William and Sadie. Timberlake’s grandfather passed away not too long ago.
The music video for “Mirrors” features both a young and an older couple. The younger couple makes their way through a fun house while the older couple reflects on their life together. The older couple is seen looking at the mirrors in their house and seeing reflections of what is taking place in the funhouse. Both the older and the younger couples are seen dancing; the younger couple is shown at a pool house where they supposedly met for the first time. The video also shows the younger couple at difficult times of their lives. When the older lady drops her wedding ring, Timberlake catches it and begins to sing and dance throughout a fun house full of mirrors.
The song itself has been hailed as a testament to a love that can endure over time. The song lyrics speak of one’s soul mate reflecting back like a mirror. In fact, the song makes several comparisons to a person’s soul mate being a mirror that stares back at him. It also speaks of two people becoming one in a mirror but also reflecting back their lives together.
The person Timberlake is singing the song to is obviously his lover who fills an empty spot in his heart. Consequently, the song has sparked rumors that it was written for Timberlake’s wife, actress Jessica Biel. The song and the music video make references to a kind of love that stands the test of time and never dies throughout both the good and the bad times.
