Kisses Down Low by Kelly Rowland
Kelly Rowland’s latest single “Kisses Down Low” comes from her fourth album entitled Talk a Good Game. The song was released in February 2013 as the second single from Rowland’s upcoming album. The song was written by Rowland, Marquel Middlebrooks, Michael Williams, Timothy Thomas, and Theron Thomas.
The video was directed by Colin Tiley who has also directed music videos for Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, and Justin Timberlake. Rowland was one of the founding members of the group Destiny’s Child along with Michelle Williams and Beyoncé Knowles. The group recently reunited at the 2013 Super Bowl where Beyoncé performed at halftime.
Since her days with Destiny’s Child, Rowland has gone on to reasonable success as a solo artist. Her song, “Kisses Down Low” is one of several singles that the artist has produced over the years, and it is one that has a hip-hop rap feel to it incorporating lyrics that are spoken, synthesizers and a bass loop in the background.
The video features Rowland with sleek, colorful outfits and a myriad of hairstyles. In several instances, she looks like a pin-up doll that could appear on the cover of a fashion magazine. Her outfits include short dresses, fur coats, vibrant tops, a sexy one piece, and plenty of bling. Her hairstyles range from long to pulled up and even short hair with vivid orange highlights and a blond wig.
The video for “Kisses Down Low” makes uses of Rowland’s various hairstyles and outfits. It is a colorful and suggestive music video that starts out with an old-school phonograph emitting musical notes plus the name of the song and the artist. Before Rowland begins her sultry serenade, the phonography emits an outline of lips.
Rowland sings in a bright dressing room, a pink tunnel with a large triangle, and a colorful room with a white couch which Rowland makes full use of. The video also includes several split screens of Rowland in different outfits and hairstyles and camera tricks so that the audience sees two Rowland’s at the same time.
The song, as well as the video, has an extremely sexual connotation to it as Rowland says that she likes “Kisses Down Low” and how it makes her feel. She explains how her lover turns her on by giving her kisses in that area of her body. She encourages her boyfriend to take his time, riding the waves, and send chills down her spine.
