Alive by Krewella
Krewella is a progressive house musical group made up of members Jahan Yousaf, Yasmine Yousaf, and Kris Trindl who is also known as Rain Man. The trio got their start back in 2007 playing underground raves in Chicago, Illinois. The group exploded onto the music scene back in 2011 and released their first extended play entitled Play Hard in June of 2012.
The band’s musical style can be called a combination of electro house, dubstep, and electro-pop. They released another extended play in December of 2012 called Play Harder and are working on a full-length album to be released sometime in 2013 from Columbia Records. The group has headlined at major music festivals around the world. They also won an award for Best Breakthrough Artist in 2012.
Krewella’s song “Alive” is featured on their EP Play Hard and it was released as a single in February of 2013. The song was written by Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf, members of the band and sisters. The music video for the song was directed by Bryan Schlam and released by Columbia Records in December of 2012. The video features the three members of the band and is set in a rundown desert location with gratified buildings and a skatepark.
The music video for “Alive” starts out with the three band members of Krewella in the middle of a desert. They walk towards a rundown building. While the song plays, the members apply graffiti to the walls and start tearing it down. They also have a bonfire in the desert and are burning scraps. Later in the song, they are joined by other people with sledge hammers who try to knock the walls down. The band members are shown walking throughout the house and horsing around with the other people in the video. They also play in an abandoned skate park. The end of the video shows more destruction of the house, dancing around the fire, and the three members walking off into the night.
The song “Alive” is ultimately a celebration of feeling alive, especially when being with your soul mate. The other person makes the singer “feel alive.” The song also speaks of wanting the incredible moments of life to “last forever” and pleads for the other person to “come and make me feel alive.” The second verse of the song talks about feeling alive in the presence of other person. The singer talks about waiting “all my life” for this other person to come along and then “make me feel until the pain don’t matter.” With its trance-like beats and synthesizers, the song will get your heart thumping!
