Downtown by Lady Antebellum
Lady Antebellum is a country pop trio made up of Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood, and Charles Kelley. The group debuted in 2007, and since then they have rocketed to stardom with several number one hits and bestselling albums. Furthermore, the group has won several Grammy and Country Music Awards.
The trio has released four albums already in their career and their latest album Golden is scheduled to be released in May of 2013. Their style of music can be best described as a blend of country and pop, and their sound has appealed to fans all around the globe.
The group’s newest single is called “Downtown” and it is the first song released from the group’s fifth album entitled Golden. It was written by Luke Laird, Shane McAnally, and Natalie Hemby. The music video for the song was directed by Peter Zavadil and produced by Ryan Lough. The song was released by the record company Capitol Nashville. The video features the band but also co-stars Beth Behrs from the TV show 2 Broke Girls as Hillary Scott’s partner in crime. The music video is unusual in a way because it features quite a bit of dialogue between the band members.
The video opens up to a conversation between band members Dave and Charles as they are sitting on a couch. The two guys are talking about how much fun they had the night before at a party. Hillary Scott comes in with a cup of coffee to join them and asks what they are doing that night. Charles says that they are thinking about going downtown. When Hillary asks if she can come, the guys tease her about not being a lot of fun and blow her off. Hillary then calls her friend and the two get ready and hit the streets. Hillary and her friend then try their hardest to get arrested by cops, Charles and Dave. The two guys are seen goofing off, eating donuts in their cop car and playing swords with their clubs.
Meanwhile, Hillary and her friend try to get into trouble by doing different things like stealing clothes and jewelry. They finally get arrested when Hillary takes a stool and smashes the windshield of the guy’s cop car. The video ends with Hillary and Beth getting handcuffed and driven off to the police station while celebrating the fact that they got arrested.
Hillary gets a mug shot while the guys rave about donuts. All the while, the song reminisces about the times when the singer and her boyfriend would go downtown to have fun and hang out. In the chorus of the song, the singer wonders why they do not go downtown anymore and walk the streets. Plus, she misses the fact that he does not pick her up anymore and only seems to cancel on her instead of wanting to show her off and have fun.
