Applause by Lady Gaga
The fans of Lady Gaga will again be received with open arms with the expected electronic realm that many have come to hear from her over the years. Producer DJ White Shadow includes a few synthesized entries during bouts of chorus, with a provocative edge that was found in his previous project “Scream and Shout” that featured Brittany Spears).
The filtered tracks and lyrics sung, particularly an open chorus at the beginning of the opening sequence of the song, bring about a great infusion of art and music from the Diva of Media Controversy. ‘Applause’ is a very ground breaking experience and it is Lady Gaga’s pop music at its best, with the instantaneous revelry of euphoric music that is not only a good dance beat, but it’s so catchy that one may not be able to get it out of their head once they listen to it!
There is a reference that may come to the mind of some more meticulous music connoisseurs, and it comes from listening to Lady Gaga’s verses and the dramatic expressions she makes throughout the video itself. Fans may see influences from David Bowie himself and in certain places, it is very obvious in the style and manner the video is presented.
The word Applause is even introduced within the video letter by letter, with close ups of Lady Gaga spelling it out. The lyrics deviate from the normal pop world’s use of rhyme for that of a free-verse technique, and within those lines, she basically talks about what the critics spoke about her fans, and how, in the end, her music remains popular despite their commentary.
This is seen as a message to critics and those issues they have written in the past about her fan base and with a pleasing observation, Lady Gaga roots for fans, thereby showing how cognizant she is towards those whom support her and she displays the same love back. This is what sets Lady Gaga from the rest in her genre, not only does she love her art, she also has a special love for her fans as well which speaks highly of her person.
Her video was directed by Inez and Vinoodh that premiered on Good Morning America with a near nude Lady Gaga prancing around although this shouldn’t be anything shocking from the artist who is known for her controversial performances. It is a highly charged video that displays the late century’s idolatry of life concerning music and the big screen. Lady Gaga performs in her recognizable and signature black backgrounds that were previously seen in “Alejandro” and her hit single, “Born this Way.
Lady Gaga presents herself in various provocative poses on a white mattress amongst a black floor, slowly emerging from pyrotechnic smoke coming out of a hat, to even a dark angel walking down a fashion runway. The many costume changes and make-up schemes, accompanied by her athleticism, coasting on the shimmering white sheets that are blowing in the wind and has her slowly disappearing within them, portrays the visual art that remains her trademark, and in this case, ‘ Applause’ holds nothing back.
