Thrift Shop by Macklemore Ft. Wanz
The music video Thrift Shop, part of the new LP The Heist by Macklemore, was directed by Ryan Lewis, Macklemore himself, and Jon Jon Augustavo. The video was filmed partially in Seattle, his hometown, because Macklemore has always felt close ties to home even though he now tours across the country. He has also spoken a bit recently about where how his tours have enable his thrift shopping habits.
Macklemore voiced that he thrift shops quite often, no matter where he goes, and that as he has toured he has been able to find all of the best places to shop across the country. He refuses to share his secret goodwill shops, but has spoken a few times about some goodwill shops in the D.C. area. He also mentions a Goodwill shop in L.A., but he is obviously much more focused on the message that his song projects: recycling clothing and wearing ridiculous stuff is a lot of fun, while doing some good.
Thrift shop has spurred people to go out shopping at goodwill stores for different gems, but whether or not that will maintain has yet to be seen. Whatever the case may be the catchy bass, fantastic flow, and great video work blend together to create another fantastic music video.
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have worked together on a range of different music videos such as Otherside, Wings, Same Love, and several others, but the projects have become increasingly more work and as a result the third director, Jon Jon Augustavo, was brought in to help out. The young rapper seems to have a keen sense of what is up and coming on the underground rap scene and, with the help of Ryan Lewis and Jon Jon Augustavo, he will hopefully continue to make fantastic music and earn the recognition that he deserves.
