“Rain over Me” by Marc Anthony ft. Pitbull is a dance/latin pop song appearing on Pitbull’s sixth studio album, “Planet Pit”, and is one of many songs of the electric dance genre recorded by Pitbull in 2011. “Rain Over Me” is given credit to Pitbull, RedOne, Marc Anthony, Bilal “The Chef” Hajji, AJ Janussi and Rachid Aziz, with RedOne (also responsible for Pitbull/Jennifer Lopez’s earlier 2011 hit, “On the Floor”). The song features the rap vocals of Pitbull with the bridge and hook sung by Latin vocalist Marc Anthony. Interspersed with the lyrics of the song are “disco-rave” synths and other effects which step away from Pitbull’s traditional latin/hip-hop niche. It was released on June 10, 2011, and reached its peak position of 30th on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in the United States, and number one on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart.
The music video for “Rain over Me” by Pitbull ft. Marc Anthony was released on July 22, 2011. It was directed by David Rousseau, who also directed the video for Pitbull’s 2009 hit “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)”. The premise of the video puts Pitbull and Marc Anthony alongside latina actress Natalie Martinez, as the trio dance provocatively and sing in the desert. As the video begins, Pitbull and Anthony are in some sort of desert apartment, with refreshments such as vodka handy, just relaxing and watching girls pass by. Finally, they invite Martinez’s character to come dance with them, and the video really gains energy and momentum. Following the desert scenes, the trio relocates to an underground, temperate grotto where many scantily clad women await their arrival, and they continue to dance and celebrate. Unknown to most of the public, the video was actually shot in desert regions on the outskirts of Los Angeles, California. Notable in the video are effects of water and rain intermittently parsed throughout, no doubt making a titular reference to “rain”.
Weeks after its debut, the “Rain over Me” VEVO Youtube video had already tallied over 180 million hits. At present date, the video has accumulated nearly 334 million views on the same channel.
