Close Your Eyes by Parmalee
‘Close Your Eyes’ is a dynamic country-rock song, animating the summer of 2014. Matt Thomas’ vocal performance is different to what Parmalee promoted before, reminding of Dierks Bentley’s smooth style accompanied by drums and electric guitar.
The video debuts in a classical background for country songs: a farm, where the main male character intensively works, despite the powerful sunlight at noon. He is determined to end his task, as a group of women displayed in a wood approach to his place, expected to benefit of his work. Further, the video becomes a collection of interrupted scenes, easily put together by viewers as in a puzzle of events: water games, karaoke, barbecue, the body of a beautiful woman.
The male character displayed in the first scenes of the video created the suitable background for a night party, so that his partner and her friends can have a good time. Similarly to children, they enjoy the ride on a water tube, enhanced during night with colorful lights. They even paint their bodies with neon lights, to have more fun. There is one participant unwilling to try the water tube, the woman for whom everything was created, finally accepting the challenge, in order to prove to his partner her courage.
Her ride ends with a kiss, after she is tenderly offered a towel. The band is present in few scenes in the middle of the party, the center of attention being the fun felt by the group of friends.
‘Close Your Eyes’ is the third single promoting the debut album of American country band Parmalee, followed at the beginning of 2015 by ‘Already Callin’ You Mine’. The country-rock song was released in February 2014, being written Trent Tomlinson, Adam Craig and Shane Minor, also creating songs for Sara Evans, Emerson Drive or Kenny Chesney. ‘Close Your Eyes’ reminds of dynamic ‘Carolina’, marking the debut of Parmalee in 2013, in music industry. The production team New Voice entertainment mastering the song also produced successful singles for Jason Aldean, Thompson Square, Stephen Cochran or Rushlow.
The song benefits of a summer video released in July 2014, directed by Wes Edwards. The American director is a recurrent collaborator of country and rock artists, including Jason Aldean (‘Burnin’ It Down’), Eric Paslay (‘Song About A Girl’) or Dierks Bentley (‘Drunk On A Plane’). ‘Close Your Eyes’ was designed as a barbecue with friends in a torrid day, ending with a refreshing night party, when the two lovers share romantic gestures as a kiss on the shoulder.
