Try by Pink
‘Try’ by Pink is an emotional video that tells the story of a couple in a difficult, tumultuous relationship. They know that their relationship is broken, but continue to try to repair their problems anyway. The video was filmed in August, 2012 and first aired in October, 2012. It was directed by Floria Sigismondi and choreographed by Golden Boyz and Sebastian Stella. ‘Try’ is the second single released from her sixth album, ‘The Truth About Love’, which is her first album to top the charts at number one.
During the video, Pink dances with a partner, Colt Prattesan, who plays the man she is in a relationship with. Both dancers are in great physical shape and perform moves that are very athletic and powerful. They dance to express their emotions and as they dance they get splattered with colorful paint. The more they dance, the more colors begin to show. The video was filmed in the desert and is based on the traditional Apache dance, which is a stylized Parisian street dance. It is a series of very acrobatic moves with many push/pull movements that the director said was meant to mimic the ups and downs in a romantic relationship.
Pink has stated that filming the video for Try was the most fun she has ever had making a video and that the video is a favorite of hers. She was quoted in an interview as saying ‘”Making this video was the most fun I’ve ever had in my entire career. I never wanted it to end.’ In the video, Pink is seen wearing a sheer slip dress that shows her underwear beneath, while Colt was shirtless throughout. Since the passionate dance moves are the focus of the video, the video is filmed in front of the stark desert landscape or a sparsely furnished room.
The raw emotion and passion of the video has struck chords with many viewers. Even Pink’s mother is quoted as having said of the video that it left her feeling speechless and uncomfortable. Pink acted out the ‘Try’ video during the 2012 American Music Awards, alongside Colt to great acclaim.
