No Type by Rae Sremmurd
Following the impressive success registered with their debut single “No Flex Zone”, the teenager hip hop duo Rae Sremmurd released on 15 September 2014 “No Type”, which became popular starting with December 2014 through its updated version.
The remix of “No Type” describes one of their daily experiences: flirting with beautiful girls, in order to search for the right partner. Shot in a summertime background, “No Type” is a joyful song about being attracted by a certain person, crossing your way and attempting to draw his/her attention.
“No Type” debuts with a sunrise image, featuring the hip hop duo on the beach, dressed in white outfits. The constant image of waves is alternated with the image of the basket dedicated to basketball, in order to suggest the evolution of their feelings. Their combination is no coincidence, the director suggests through these scenes the idea that life, as felt by the artists, is a continuous challenge, searching for the perfect opportunities.
In addition to this concept, the visual metaphors already mentioned are enhanced by the hypostasis of a roller coaster, a leisure activity that also transmits the idea of high speed, danger and the acceptance of a challenge. Once they drew the attention of the beautiful girls passing by, the members of the band describe how the ideal woman should behave, more precisely they indicate what she doesn’t have to do: to act similarly to Kim Kardashian.
Once the connection is created, the artists and their partners are inseparable, as the seagulls on the beach. They have fun together, trying their luck to different summer games, while the end of the video is a returning to the original status: the members of the duo sing and dance on the beach and on a graffiti wall, while the sunset naturally closes the story displayed through their song.
The new song released by Rae Sremmurd was written by the hip hop duo, being produced by Mike Will Made It, known for his collaboration with 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, Ciara or Juicy J. “No Tape” will be included on their upcoming studio album, “SremmLife”.
“No Type”, released on 17 September 2014, was directed by Max Hliva, a new American director having created for Frenchies “Power Moves”. Both the director and the band focused on creating a fresh scenario for the situation described, although it was described in multiple ways by similar bands in the last bands. Their originality consists in the suite of images associated with the idea of flirting and forming a relationship: a walk on the beach, enjoying the roller coaster or winning a prize, to satisfy the expectations of your partner.
