Runnin’ Outta Moonlight by Randy Houser
“ Runnin Outta Moonlight” is brought to the Country Music scene by Randy Houser. Randy Houser is a country music star who has made a name for himself as a songwriter. There are some that say it’s a continuation from his other hit ‘ How Country Feels’ where the said protagonist shows his girlfriend what it’s like to have a date at night in the country.
Growing up, Houser performed in various bands before moving to Nashville, Tennessee in 2002 in order to start a songwriting career. Houser soon found fame by writing hit songs for such artists as Trace Adkins, Justin Moore, and Jessie James. So far in his career, Houser has released three studio albums and been nominated for several country music awards. His hit songs as a music artist have included “Boots On,” “Anything Goes,” “Whistlin’ Dixie,” and “How Country Feels.”
The song “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight” comes from from Houser’s album entitled How Country Feels which was released in January of 2013 from Stoney Creek Records. “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight” was released as the second single from that album in March of 2013, and the song was written by Ashley Gorley, Dallas Davidson, and Kelley Lovelace.
The music video for “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight” was directed by Wes Edwards, who has also worked with artists such as Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Trace Adkins, Brooks & Dunn, and Thompson Square. The video was shot at Nashville’s Sudekum Planetarium with special cameras.
The music video for “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight” begins with a shot of moon in the middle of a starry sky. A pickup is driving down the road with its lights on as Houser and his band began playing. The band is playing under the starry sky. The video then shows a woman opening her window as she sees the pickup coming towards her.
The woman smiles and gets into the truck with her boyfriend and they drive off. The two smile at each other as they cruise down through the countryside underneath a brilliant moonlit sky. At one point, the woman stands up in the truck since the top is open. The vehicle eventually stops and the couple gets out with a lantern and a blanket. They hold other and get cozy while gazing at the moon and the stars. They kiss just as the sun rises.
The song “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight” speaks of a moonlight date. It starts with the singer telling his baby to “look out your window at the cloud of dust” as his truck pulls up to her house. They are headed out on a date which is a “tailgate for two underneath the stars.” This is a night “that we don’t wanna miss” so the singer pleads for the girl not to keep him waiting too long.
During the chorus, the singer asks her to let him take her “on a night ride” with the “windows down” and her at his side. He reminds her that they are “runnin’ outta moonlight” and how much he wants to hold her “til the break of dawn.”
