Ten Jesus Pieces by Rick Ross ft. Stalley
In ‘Ten Jesus Pieces’, a single off the 2011 album ‘God Forgives, I don’t’, rap superstar Rick Ross begins with a solemn promise that echoes the sentiment of the titular album. Beginning with flashes of churches contrasted against the alleyways of the streets where he was raised, Christ and God cut together with images of prison and godless hoods, the music video for Ten Jesus Pieces featuring Stalley is proudly brought to fans by the untouchable Mayback empire, a reference to the Mayback Music Group record label when Ross founded.
Produced in partnership between director Dre films and Maybach films, Ten Jesus Pieces portrays the conflict and differences between street life and church. Written by Roberts II, Ortiz, Crowe, Bartolomei, Kyle Myrics, Jeffrey Osborne and Leon Franklin, the title Ten Jesus Pieces has been referenced by Ross as a sudden inspiration while he was in church awaiting photographers for the forthcoming album. “I remember sitting in the church just waiting for the photographer,” he elaborates, before going on to explain that he suddenly knew he wanted to have ten jesus pieces to “go to that next level”.

Rapping in a mink coat and white suit, Rick Ross proselytizes about the struggles of his life throughout the video for Ten Jesus Pieces, accompanied by a group of violinists.
Ross is open about the tribulations of his life with the notable exception of some recent controversy over the rapper’s name, allegedly stolen from ‘Freeway’ Rick Ross, an infamous Los Angeles drug trafficker. Freeway alleges that Rick Ross stole his name while he was in prison to improve his name on the streets, and despite Ross’ Ten Jesus Pieces mythologizing a life on the streets, the rapper Rick Ross reportedly came up as a corrections officer, not a banger. The case has been filed with the California Federal Court, and Jay-Z has even been called in to testify. Rick Ross has never publicly denied the allegations, and Ten Jesus Pieces begins with the conspicuous line where Ross admits himself as a thief. But regardless of any misconceptions the public has about his past, Ross can sleep well and pray right knowing that he has been named by MTV as the hottest MC in the game.
