Take Care By Drake Feat. Rihana
The video for Take Care by Drake featuing Rihanna is one that, at first, deceives the viewer with its simplicity. However, its simplicity is its power, and it is a stunning, powerful, well-executed piece of visual art. The video was directed by Yoann Lemoine, a French music video director with whom Drake had not previously worked. The video stars Drake and Rihanna, and it was filmed in early 2012, although it is not known where it was filmed. Take Care by Drake ft. Rihanna was taken from Drake’s album of the same name, Take Care. The song is about a couple whose relationship is over, but they still promise to care for one another. The video shows the two former lovers, Drake and Rihanna, trying to reassure each other in the face of danger.
The video opens with bits of ash sinking slowly through the air, before showing a bull running in slow motion. Snowcovered mountains, quiet and peaceful, are shown, which then cuts to show Drake. He, like the rest of the video, is shot in blue-tinged grayscale, uniting the otherwise separate images. Rihanna, dressed in a worn cardigan, looks over her shoulder. In the colorless video, she looks fragile and vulnerable. Drake and Rihanna sing their respective lyrics while more images are shown, like a blue bird and a blue fish moving in slow motion. In between these shots of nature, the singer and rapper hold each other tenderly.
However, the video suddenly becomes much more tense, showing raging forest fires and the bull running through a shower of arrows. For a few shots, we are also shown the feet of a man as he runs through the arrows as well. This was intended to represent poaching, which may be symbolic of one of the people in the relationship cheating. The ash in the beginning is also explained: it is bits of Drake’s charred clothing, which lifts into the air as he sinks in slow motion. Drake and Rihanna hold each other even tighter, as though trying to ignore these disasters. The video finally ends with a picture of the ground, covered in ashes and smoking.
The release of the video for “Take Care” by Drake ft. Rihanna was pushed back several times, eventually being released almost a month later than originally anticipated. However, it was met with very positive reviews by music and video critics alike, who agreed that it was worth the wait. The video was praised for its editing and its tension, as well as its images of nature. Take Care by Drake ft. Rihanna is a beautiful video that fits its song very well.
