Robin Thicke is an R&B songwriter, singer, composer, record producer, and actor who is also a star on the ABC show Duets. Robin Thicke is the son of well-known actor Alan Thicke but has shown that he can make on it on his own.
So far in his career, Thicke was released five albums, with a sixth entitled Blurred Lines coming in the summer of 2013. Thicke has also written popular songs for artists such as Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, and Mary J. Blige. Some of his hits have included “Love After War,” “Lost Without U,” and “Pretty Lil’ Heart.”
The song “Blurred Lines” comes from Thicke’s upcoming album. The song is the first single from that album, and it was released in March of 2013 from Star Trak/Interscope Records. “Blurred Lines” was written by Thicke, Pharrell Williams and Clifford Harris Jr. also known as T.I. Both T.I. and Pharrell Williams are featured on the song and in the music video.
The music video for the song was directed by Diane Martel and produced by Coleen Haynes and David Robertson. Black Dog Films was the production company. There were two versions of the music video made, one of which was called the unrated version. This version garnered over a million views in the first few days after being released. Thicke, T.I., and Pharrell all make appearances in the video as well as model Emily Ratajkowski.
The music video features the three artists singing the song surrounded by a few models doing various things like holding goats, dancing, playing with large dice, riding a stationary bike, or just standing around. The hashtags #thicke and #blurredlines feature prominently on the screen as well and flash at random points.
T.I. and Pharrell actually move to the song while Thicke more or less stands around. At one point, he is licking an ice cream cone and smoking a cigarette. The music video has a distinct lack of color with the exceptions of the guys’ black suits and the models’ red lipstick.
The song “Blurred Lines” speaks of the mixed signals that can happen between guys and girls. A girl the singer is interested in keeps giving him the wrong signals hence the chorus “I hate these blurred lines.” The girl does not understand his messages and they are not on the “same page” so the singer is about to go “out of my mind.” The previous guy she was with tried to tame her but she’s “an animal” and the singer reassures her that he will instead give her freedom. The girl he sings about has everything he could ever want.
