Slow Down by Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez is an actress and singer who has been making a name for herself after getting her start on the Disney Channel. Gomez has appeared in many Disney Channel shows including Wizards of Waverly Place, Hannah Montana, and the Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
Her successful acting career gave her an opening into the music industry, and in 2009, Gomez released her studio album entitled Kiss and Tell. Since then, Gomez has continued to star in many films like Ramona and Beezus and The Muppets, as well as release many hit songs that have topped the charts. Some of her hits have included “Love You Like a Love Song” and “Come & Get It.”
The song “Slow Down” comes from her solo debut album entitled Stars Dance which was released in July of 2013 from Hollywood Records. Gomez’s previous studio albums have been released under the name of her band called Selena Gomez & the Scene. “Slow Down” is the second single from Stars Dance, and it was released in August of 2013. The song was written by Lindy Robbins, Julia Michaels, Niles Hollowell-Dhar, David Kuncio, and Freddy Wexler. The music video for the song was directed by Philip Andelman who has worked with other artists such as Fergie, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Norah Jones, and the Jonas Brothers. The music video was also produced by Arthur Cantin and Jules Dieng. It was filmed in Paris, France.
The music video begins with an overhead shot of Paris at night and then switches to a shot of a 1964 Pullman 600 Mercedes-Benz driving through the city. Gomez is in the backseat of the car as she starts singing. The video also shows Gomez dancing in a club with blue neon lights in the background. The video then alternates between Gomez in the backseat of the Mercedes and in the club surrounding by other clubbers. There are also shots of Gomez walking down the street at night as she sings. Towards the end of the video, Gomez is back in the nightclub, although this time she is wearing a two piece outfit and accompanied by backup dancers. The video ends with more shots of the Mercedes driving through Paris and Gomez in the backseat.
The song “Slow Down” speaks about slowing down “the song” so that the night can last forever. The singer is asking if they can “slow down the song” so that they can “take it nice and slow.” She wants the party to last all night and when it comes close to ending, they can hit “rewind.” The singer also speaks about wanting to just be close to the other person during that time so she can “feel your body right next to mine.” She talks about dancing and stealing the other person for “a rhythm intervention,” and there is “no stoppin’ til the morning.” The singer wants to “slow down the song” so their time together will last longer.
