A Guy Walks Into a Bar by Tyler Farr
‘A Guy Walks Into a Bar’, released in August 2014, is the leading single promoting Tyler Farr’s second studio album, that will be released in 2015. The song marks Tyler Farr’s efforts to complete his country background with additional musical influence such as soft rock, similarly to Keith Urban. Comparing with this previous success in 2013, ‘Whiskey In My Water’, the current song is more dynamic one, articulating the sharp lyrics to an electrifying rhythm.
‘A Guy Walks Into a Bar’ can be story of every men spending his evening in a bar, meeting an attractive woman, who he would like to know better, potentially ask her to be his girlfriend. The bar itself is an open space for socialization, by playing billiard or dart or drinking beer. Tyler Farr finds himself in a double role: the guy walking a bar and the artist telling his story in an old passage.
The barman represented by the country singer is a retired person, who takes his courage and approaches the beautiful woman, after several glances. Once he is sure that he would be accepted as a presence in her universe, since she was smiling back to his flirt, he makes the first step. Soon, his secret happiness is affected by seeing her with another man. After her leaving, he sadly starts to clean the bar for closing, while he finds her ticket with her phone number. His surprise is even bigger, seeing her returning to the bar, as a sign of accepting his feelings.
‘A Guy Walks Into a Bar’ was written by Mellisa Peirce, Brad Tursi and Jonathan Singleton, also creating country songs for Josh Turner (‘Why Don’t We Just Dance’), Billy Currington (‘Don”) or Craig Morgan (‘Wake Up Lovin’ You’). The song was produced by Julian King and Jim Catino, also mastering the creations of Kenny Rogers, Tim McGraw or Lee Ann Womack.
The video designed for ‘A Guy Walks Into a Bar’, released in October 2014, focuses on the story already announced in the title.
Debuting director Jeff Venable, also creating ‘Get To You’ (Matt Wertz) and ‘Just Enough’ (Andrew Ripp), created the suitable environment for a man entering a bar: he is a barman and he notices a beautiful woman in the room, finding difficult to express his feelings. The video itself is a constant fight with himself of the barman to approach the chosen one, his attempts being succeeded by alternative scenes of Tyler Farr and his band performing the song.
