Clarity by Zedd ft. Foxes
Zedd, whose real name is Anton Zaslavski, is a music producer and DJ from Russia. His music career includes being a classical musician and part of the German band named Dioramic.
Zedd has been a producer of electronic music since 2009 and has gained quite a bit of popularity for his remixes of hits from artists such as Lady Gaga, Skrillex, and the Black Eyed Peas. Zedd has also produced music for other artists such as Justin Bieber and Namie Amuro. Additionally, Zedd is pursuing his own solo career as an artist with the release of his debut album entitled Clarity. This album was released in 2012 from Interscope Records. He has also released several extended plays and singles in recent years.
The song “Clarity” is the title track from Zedd’s debut album. The single was released in February of 2013 from Interscope Records. The song was written by Zedd along with Matthew Koma, Skylar Grey, and Porter Robinson. The English singer Foxes adds her vocals to the song. There is also an extended play of the track which features ten different remixes from a host of different artists. The official music video for “Clarity” was released in January of 2013 and it was directed by Jodeb. Jodeb has also worked with such artists as Anberlin, Underoath, and the Deftones. The music video was produced by Geoff McLean and PJ Sodaski. Vision Entertainment was the production company.
The music video for “Clarity” starts out with scenes of a desert complete with blowing sand and large sand dunes. Foxes begins singing and the desert scenes are interspersed with scenes of a man and a woman driving down the road in different cars and different places. At one point, both the girl and guy crash into each other in their vehicles. This sets off a round of myriad objects exploding like light bulbs and glass.
Zedd is also shown in the video but only occasionally. The guy and girl from the car crash are seen being thrown to different parts of the world. The guy wakes up in a cave. He climbs out and finds himself in the desert chasing after a wounded Foxes. In the end, the guy and girl are together. The video also features some excellent visual effects.
The song “Clarity” speaks of duality of love and romantic relationships. The singer peaks of how their love is “tragedy” while at the same time, the other person is her “remedy,” and the song wonders how this could be. In the same vein, if their love is “insanity,” how does the other person exist as her “clarity”? The verses of the sound follow some of the same metaphors for love. They talk about diving into “frozen waves” and drowning “in you again.” They also speak about crashing into each other until they “forget all common sense” and “refuse to make amends.” However, the people in love can’t stand being away from each other. It is a mystery.
